TAO WANG

The pairing of Chosson Torah and Chosson Bereishis in a single kiddush is interesting, since it links the close of the annual cycle with its immediate renewal. I wonder whether combining both honors at one gathering is meant to emphasize that finishing and beginning are really one continuous act of learning. Does this custom vary between communities, or is it fairly consistent? It seems like a meaningful way to mark the transition without a break in momentum.
